SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and develop in an environment that is both safe and secure. At Dallimore Primary and Nursery School we strive to provide an environment for children, where risks are minimised, well managed and children are protected from harm and abuse.

Our policies are reviewed regularly by the governing body and they apply to all staff, governors and volunteers working in the school. All adults in school read and agree to follow the following documents: School Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, Keeping Children Safe in Education, Working Together to Safeguard Children and many more. All policies are within the Safeguarding section on the POLICIES page.

We have policies and procedures in place to make sure we keep children safe and we might ask you questions about your child's welfare. Please understand that we are not accusing parents of harming or mistreating their children but it is legally part our job to do this.

We have a dedicated email address for raising any sort of worry or concern and this is directed to the Designated Safeguarding Lead - Rachel Crowther, Headteacher and a Deputy Designated Lead- Katie Smith, Deputy Headteacher

Tea time club

This facility is available until 5.30pm at a cost of £4.75. Places can be booked and paid for, via ParentPay, up to 1pm on the day. Children will receive a drink and a snack.

UNIFORM

At Dallimore Primary and Nursery we have a uniform which we expect the children to wear every day.

The colours are royal blue for cardigans or sweatshirts, and grey or black for pinafore dresses, skirts or trousers. Black shoes or trainers to be worn.

Uniform can be purchased from Hamilton’s School Wear, Granby Street, Ilkeston, 0115 9326333 (Workwear list and price list) or this is also available from My Clothing by visiting www.myclothing.com (we receive a small donation for every purchase made through this website) Alternatively, a plain royal blue jumper or cardigan is perfectly acceptable. We do not expect children in the 2yr unit to wear uniform but can if you wish.

All uniform should be named, including top coats, as children often misplace items of clothing and they can be quickly returned to their owner if they are easily identified.

We ask the children not to wear jewellery or other valuable items when at school as it is very distressing if they are lost or damaged (small earrings and a watch are ok). Children will be asked to remove jewellery and this will be kept in a safe place. Please note that we cannot be responsible for any jewellery lost whilst at school.

PE KIT

Your child’s teacher will let you know when they have PE and children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.

PE kit should be a white t-shirt and black or navy blue shorts/ tracksuit bottoms for outdoor PE in colder weather and trainer or plimsolls (please do not spend a lot of money on trainers). Please do not send children with football kit as this can cause arguments and rivalry.

Swimming takes place in year 4. Information will be given out as appropriate to let you know when your child is swimming.

Year 6 children go swimming for the last half term in the summer.

BOOK BAGS

School book bags are available to buy from the school office at a cost of £5.75 and these should be paid for through parent pay.

Rules and Behaviour

We feel it important to ensure that children’s learning is not interrupted by unacceptable behaviour- not matter how small an incident that may be.

We encourage children to take responsibility for their behaviour and help them make good choices by using the STARFISH values. We believe that if children are provided with a consistent approach by adults, alongside clear structures and boundaries, they can begin to take responsibility for themselves and their actions.

Throughout the year we review our behaviour policy to ensure it is reflective of our values, and revisit the STARFISH story to reinforce these and help children understand what it means to be good citizens.

Children are rewarded for making good choices throughout the use of Class Dojo and house point tokens. Successes and achievements are celebrated through weekly ‘STAR’ assemblies.
